Thelma O’Rourke

Thelma O’Rourke, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and long-time resident of South Philadelphia, passed away on December 5, 2024, at the age of 83.

Born on April 9, 1941, Thelma was a beacon of joy and positivity, known for her warm and carefree spirit and her remarkable ability to bring happiness wherever she went. Among her favorite pastimes was watching Hallmark Channel movies, where she found joy in their heartfelt stories and happy endings—a reflection of her own optimistic and loving nature.

Thelma dedicated many years as a respected and hardworking sales associate for Forman Mills and Jomar. Her commitment to her work and her ability to connect with others made her a valued colleague and friend to many. Her kindness and friendly demeanor left a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Thelma’s greatest pride and joy was her family. She cherished every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, creating countless memories filled with laughter and love.  She will always be remembered for her kind heart, her generous spirit, and unconditional love.  Her family meant everything to her, and her life was shaped by the love and relationships she held most dear.

Thelma was preceded into heaven by her parents, Frederick and Consuela Brooks; her husband, William O’Rourke; her son, William O’Rourke; her granddaughter, Thelma Stewart; her sisters, Laura, Lily, Anna, Kay, Connie, and Mary; and “great-grandson”, Frank, a beloved family dog she adored like her own.

She is survived by her loving children: Thelma (the late Tom) Rachubinski, Terry (Tony) Malik, Fred (Katie) O’Rourke, Margie (Paul) Jacobus, and Connie (Scott) Wayman. She also leaves behind a large and devoted family of many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will miss her dearly.

Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing on Friday, December 13th, from 9:00 AM to 10:15 AM at the Cieplinski Funeral Home, 1018 S. 2nd Street, Philadelphia, PA 19147. Interment will follow at Fernwood Cemetery.

While Thelma will be deeply missed by her family, friends, neighbors, and the South Philadelphia community she called home, her family finds comfort in knowing she is at peace, reunited with loved ones who passed before her, and watching over them with the same love and care that made her life so extraordinary.
